Increase Store Sales with Shelf-Talkers

Customers step into a metaphysical store with wide-eyed wonder. Some are experts and have been working with the power of positive thought and the use of intention, and for others, it is all brand new. This article can help you increase gemstone and aromatherapy sales. There is much to learn from their local retail visionary resources store. People want to learn and are often overwhelmed when they arrive in a New Age store, especially if they are new to their spiritual journey using tools like crystals and aromatherapy.

With nearly four decades of retail experience, I’ve recognized that people want guidance and help on which rock to buy or which essential oil or spray to inhale to improve their lives. Shelf talkers have increased sales of tumbled stones, gemstone bracelets and jewelry, crystal specimens, and medical-grade essential oils products in my store. According to Cambridge Dictionary, a shelf talker is “a piece of printed paper or an electronic screen fixed to a shelf in a store, to bring attention to goods on that shelf.”

Adding this information to your products on the shelves is easy and inexpensive. At my store, we use a Word Document to create “stone signs” and an aromatherapy sheet. The stone signs placed in the tumbled stone bowls and bins identify the stone, include bullet points for uses and intentions, and the code and price for when they check out. Customers place their chosen stone and the matching stone sign in a little plastic bag. The plastic bags can be kept in a little basket near the tumbled stone area. This helps the customer once they get home so they can identify the rock and remind them why they chose that stone. After all, the rock is only going to “work” if they hold their focus and intention on why they picked that stone. Similar stone signs hang on the hooks with the gemstone bracelets to identify and define the uses of that gem. People buy the gemstone bracelets to wear their intention. The placement of shelf talkers has increased sales significantly.

The template I use includes my store’s logo in the background. A Word document with the stone signs typically has 12 blocks that are cut up and placed in the bowl or bing. It’s beneficial to include your store logo and the website to increase store recognition and encourage them to go to your website for more information. The Gemstone Sheet and Aromatherapy Sheet I referred to earlier have increased sales because customers take them home (we put one in every bag) so they can review what they might want to purchase next. I’ve created these documents using information from the books I’ve written. Here is a snippet from the Aromatherapy Word Document

Anise Seed—for muscular aches and pains caused by overexertion and rheumatism; expectorant for bronchitis, coughs, and colds; and to settle stomach cramps, and flatulence.

Basil – colds, memory, digestion, regulating the menstrual cycle, and applied to bites and stings, decongestant of the veins and pulmonary arteries.

Bergamot – depression, stress, tension, fear, infection, emotional crisis. Use for peace, happiness, restful sleep.

Birch – dermatitis, dull or congested skin, eczema, hair care and psoriasis, poor circulation, muscular pains, edema, and cellulite.

. . .  and so on.

            I have a similar handout for the gemstones. Here is a snippet:

Agate – balancing, emotions, stability, childbirth, menstrual cramps, teething, grounding.

Amazonite – opens creativity, helps one to speak truth and communicate clearly.

Amber – fossilized resin, protection, clearing, calming, infections, absorbs and transmutes negative energy.

Amethyst – spiritual awareness, dreaming, dispels nightmares, protection, known as the “sobriety stone, helps break bad habits.

Aventurine (Green) – good luck, abundance, adventures in travel, healing heart and emotions, love loss, self-love.

It is a two-sided document with aromatherapy on one side and gemstone definitions on the other. (I am happy to share this a PDF of my Aroma and Gem Sheet with you. Just ask.) Customers appreciate the free information, and it helps to educate. It’s a great way to help customers help themselves while increasing sales at your store.
