Hello COVR Members,
I want to let you know about some of the changes the COVR Board has been making and will be making over the next few months. One of the biggest changes has been the transition from a paid staff to an all-volunteer staff. Same players, different arrangement. We anticipate this will help us hold down costs moving forward.
We are also working on a plan to transition from a single membership level to tiered memberships. More about that in coming months.
As part of our re-organization we have re-designed the COVR website to put more emphasize on content. (Many thanks to Karen Stuth at Satiama (https://www.satiama.com/) and Michelle Williams at The Incandescent Group (http://theincandescentgroup.com/) for their tireless efforts!)
These are exciting changes. They’ve been in the works for over a year now but it’s probably no coincidence we announcing them just before the solar eclipse later this month with its themes of re-evaluation and reset.
I hope you will take some time to make COVR a larger part of your business life. We are looking for volunteers to help with our many projects, including writing articles, recruiting new members, and re-formatting web content. If you don’t have time to volunteer you can help your fellow members and the community by participating in the discussions at the COVR All Members (https://www.facebook.com/groups/401068139938580/) group on Facebook.

** How to Compete with Amazon
COVR often receives inquiries from its members about how to deal with Amazon as a competitor. Amazon is a significant force to be reckoned with, especially for the sale of books and music, and utilizes ‘bot’ software programs to seek out the lowest price on the web for titles it also offers so that it can adjust the price downward to be the lowest available on the internet. The same is also true of Wal-Mart, who utilizes similar technology, allowing them to win a sale over a margin as small as ten cents in difference.
Considered the largest online retailer in the world, Amazon is best known by consumers for its fast delivery, huge product catalog and ambitious moves into areas like original TV programming. But, as Reuters recently reported, “[Amazon’s] mastery of the complex, behind-the-scenes technologies that power modern e-commerce is just as important to its success. Dexterity with bots allows Amazon not only to see what its rivals are doing, but increasingly to keep them in the dark when it undercuts them on price or is quietly charging more.”
